Channel Glass Curtain Wall Corner Design Guide

2024-08-08

In curtain wall design, a common and artistic approach is to use Channel Glass to wrap the building, creating an effect of a glowing box.

In such designs, the corners of the Channel Glass curtain wall often require special treatment. This article details several mainstream methods for handling right-angle corners with Channel Glass.

Single-Sided Installation of Channel Glass

When installing on a single side, right-angle corners are relatively easy to handle, with the following four methods:

  1. Method 1

  2.  Single-Sided Installation of Channel Glass

    • Advantages: This is an ideal installation method where the corner Channel Glass remains intact.

    • Disadvantages: Because the overall dimensions of the curtain wall are unlikely to be exact multiples of the Channel Glass size, joint adjustments or flange trimming on the other side may be required.

  3. Method 2

  4. Single-Sided Installation of Channel Glass

    • Advantages: Easy to install, and flanges can be cut on-site.

    • Disadvantages: This method disrupts the integrity of the Channel Glass at the corner.

  5. Method 3

  6. Single-Sided Installation of Channel Glass

    • Advantages: Similar to Method 2, it is easy to install and provides a more secure corner.

    • Disadvantages: It also disrupts the integrity of the Channel Glass at the corner.

  7. Method 4

  8. Single-Sided Installation of Channel Glass

    • Advantages: Uses other sizes of Channel Glass to fill in lengths that the original size does not meet.

    • Disadvantages: Channel Glass sizes are relatively fixed. All available sizes should be referred to in Channel Glass specifications, and the consistency of patterns among different sizes should be considered in practical applications.

Double-Sided Installation of Channel Glass

When installing on both sides, right-angle corners are more complex, with the following five methods:

  1. Method 1

  2. Double-Sided Installation of Channel Glass

    • Advantages: This is an ideal installation method where the exterior Channel Glass remains intact, and only one flange needs to be cut on the interior.

    • Disadvantages: The overall dimensions of the curtain wall are unlikely to be exact multiples of the Channel Glass size, necessitating joint adjustments or flange trimming elsewhere.

  3. Method 2

  4. Double-Sided Installation of Channel Glass

    • Advantages: Only one flange needs to be cut.

    • Disadvantages: The exterior corner Channel Glass is not intact, and similar to Method 1, the overall curtain wall dimensions need to be considered.

  5. Method 3

  6. Double-Sided Installation of Channel Glass

    • Advantages: All corner Channel Glass remains intact without the need for cutting.

    • Disadvantages: The corner gap is larger, suggesting on-site glass cutting to fill the gap.

  7. Method 4

  8. Double-Sided Installation of Channel Glass

    • Advantages: Easy to install, and Channel Glass can be cut on-site for precise dimensions.

    • Disadvantages: Two pieces of Channel Glass need to be cut, disrupting the integrity of both the interior and exterior corner Channel Glass.

  9. Method 5

  10. Double-Sided Installation of Channel Glass

Summary

When designing right-angle corners, consider the following three aspects:

Effect

  • Whether the exterior corner      maintains the integrity of the Channel Glass
  • Whether the interior corner      maintains the integrity of the Channel Glass

Dimensions

  • Overall dimensions of the      curtain wall
  • Dimensions of the Channel Glass

Edging

  • Each side of the curtain wall's      respective edging method
