Since the "construction order" for the Winter Olympics was issued by the Beijing Municipal Government on March 31, 2017, Shougang Park, which is responsible for hosting important events for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, has started a new transformation project.

Shougang Industrial Park was one of the earliest modern steel enterprises in North China and has a complete and large-scale steel production factory area in China, with high historical and tourism value. After this transformation, the ironmaking raw material area of Shougang Park was transformed into the headquarters of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Winter Olympics, and a ski jumping venue was built in the oxygen plant. Shougang Park also utilized the old workshop of the refined coal workshop to build three national team training venues for curling, figure skating, and speed skating, while transforming the coal station in the old factory area into an international standard ice hockey venue.

The construction of Winter Olympics venues has injected new vitality into Shougang Park. The ski jumping venue has become a landmark building in the park and is in harmony with the cooling tower of the original Shougang Power Plant. The old and new landscapes blend harmoniously, giving the old factory buildings new uses in the new era.

During this impressive national pilot project for the transformation of old industrial areas, Appleton U Channel Glass had the opportunity to participate in it. As one of the few externally purchased materials for the Shougang Park curtain wall project (the steel and steel plates are all produced by Shougang), Appleton U Channel Glass played an irreplaceable and important role in aiding the venue's renovation and upgrades.

Assistance One: Unprecedented Scale in 45 Days

There are 74 facades requiring tempered U-shaped glass in 13 different-sized venues within the Shougang Park, with a total installation area exceeding 30,000 square meters. However, the entire project's production and supply window is only 45 days, creating a daunting challenge that could set a record.

Assistance Two: Precision Cutting and Customization

Due to varied venue sizes and facades, the project's first obstacle was determining the U-glass size and quantity. After accurate measurements and approvals from the construction team, the drawings matched the actual dimensions to determine the size of each piece of U-shaped glass required for each facade in each venue. Each piece is uniquely numbered to ensure proper installation and maintenance in the future.

Assistance Three: Bright Colors and Complementary Reflections

To harmonize with the industrial design style, the project utilized a large number of ultra-clear tempered U-shaped glass and citrine yellow crystal U-shaped glass. Our company's innovative product, citrine yellow crystal U-shaped glass, is produced using high-temperature coloring technology by attaching a yellow crystal film layer to the inner surface of the U-shaped glass. The coating has a pencil hardness of up to 7H and is resistant to fading in direct sunlight, ensuring durability.

Assistance Four: Strong Collaboration, Professional Construction

Throughout the entire design and supply process, we have maintained close cooperation with three curtain wall companies (Oriental Taiyang, Qinbo Curtain Wall, and Shenzhen Jingyi), all of whom possess Class A qualifications. Given the short duration of the project, we have customized supply plans for each company to enable them to work simultaneously and save as much construction time as possible.

After 45 days of intense battles, 30,000 square meters of coated, cut, and tempered Appleton U Channel Glass arrived at the construction site of Shougang Park in sequence, becoming a scenic spot for the transformed Shougang Park. At present, Shougang Park is fully prepared and waiting for the arrival of the Winter Olympics.
